2019 Mitsubishi Outlander Long Island

Mitsubishi Outlander vs. the Ford Competition in Wantagh, NY

Check Out How 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander Bests 2019 Ford Escape Head-to-Head

The market for new compact SUVs is more competitive than ever. That's because more New Yorkers from the Long Island area are looking for roomier, more capable, and tech-savvier alternatives to the tried-and-true mid-size sedan. Nowhere can our Mitsubishi dealership see it more distinctly than around Wantagh, and furthermore, the differences among options are nowhere more apparent than up against our automaker's flagship CUV, the Mitsubishi Outlander. Back for 2019 and better than ever, it's already excelling segment mainstays like Ford Escape, now in its own latest model year, where it matters most, and we've made it easy to compare both crossovers to one another. See for yourself here at Wantagh Mitsubishi!

Standard Features and Options

  • With a powerful 166-horsepower, 2.4-liter MIVEC engine, 2019 Outlander gets better fuel economy than the comparable 168-horsepower, 2.5-liter Duratec i-VCT I4 under the hood of 2019 Escape. Count on up to an EPA-estimated 25 mpg in cities like Massapequa and 30 mpg down highways to spots like Smithtown, NY. Escape gets only up to 21 mpg city and 29 mpg highway in its base trim.
  • The new Outlander incorporates a larger fuel tank, weighing in at 16.6 gallons, compared to that of the new Escape, at 15.7 gallons. That means you can keep trips to the pump around Medford, NY to a minimum between excursions.
  • Outlander features a tighter turning circle of 34.8 feet compared to that of Escape at 38.8 feet -- meaning more maneuverability in cramped Hempstead, NY parking lots and other areas where space is at a premium.
  • The roomier of the two compact crossovers for passengers, the Outlander features a cabin that sprawls up to a whopping 128.2 cubic feet, with third-row seating capable of accommodating up to seven riders. The Escape interior, on the other hand, measures only 98.7 cubic feet and features only two rows.

Technology and Safety

  • Entertainment and settings control remains within reach in the Mitsubishi Outlander base ES 2.4 trim, which builds in a large 7-inch infotainment touchscreen. The base SYNC system in Ford Escape is much smaller.
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard with no more than a step up to Outlander SE 2.4. Escape offers only Android Auto compatibility, and only via an upgrade to its SYNC 3 system.
  • 710-watt, nine-speaker Rockford Fosgate premium audio is available in trims like Outlander SEL 2.4. In the comparable Escape SEL trim, however, only a six-speaker system comes standard, and you have to invest in the Titanium trim to get a 10-speaker Sony system.
  • When it comes to drive-time security, the latest Outlander is a clear pull-ahead. Driver-assistance features like blind-spot warning, lane change assist, and rear cross-traffic alert are optional in the SE 2.4 trim and standard in SEL 2.4 and later, while adaptive cruise control, forward collision mitigation, and lane departure warning are available in the SEL 2.4 trim and later. To get even some of these in Escape, you'll have to pay for the Ford Safe and Smart package.

Warranty Coverage

  • As quality assurance is concerned, Mitsubishi has your new 2019 Outlander covered. Every model comes with a 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain limited coverage, and 7 years or 100,000 miles of corrosion protection. Ford only covers its Escape for 3 years or 36,000 miles bumper to bumper, and only ensures its powertrain for 5 years or 60,000 miles.
