When should I get my oil changed?

Oil change intervals depend largely on the car, but also on the driver and environmental conditions. The automaker knows the vehicle and its parts intimately, so it's important to abide by the manufacturer's recommended oil change schedule. This schedule can be found in your owner's manual. Keep in mind any driving conditions that warrant extra attention, like sitting in Long Island traffic on a hot day, or a short commute in Wantagh when temperatures are freezing. Someone who commutes between Massapequa and Smithtown might have different needs than someone who drives upstate every week or into Brooklyn every day. We would be happy to help you determine the ideal oil change interval for your car so you can avoid either overworking your engine or wasting perfectly good oil.

How often should I service my car?

This is another situation that depends on the specific vehicle and how hard you tend to drive it! Your owner's manual will contain the manufacturer's suggested maintenance schedule, and adhering strictly to this schedule is the best possible way to ensure your car lives a long life in excellent condition. Please come to us with any questions, and we can make sure your vehicle gets the care it needs by tailoring a service schedule to it and to you. And if you're a Mitsubishi driver, you can play around online here for your recommended service intervals.

How much does regular maintenance cost for a Mitsubishi?

Mitsubishi cars boast some of the lowest costs of service and maintenance. It's certainly something our customers consider when purchasing a new Mitsubishi- the costs of ownership will be less than most other brands. These lower costs, along with Mitsubishi's amazing, unmatched warranty coverage, mean that Mitsubishi ownership is likely to cost you less than owning another brand. Please call us for specific service and part costs.

Why is car service important?

Changing your car's oil is essential, as it keeps the engine lubricated, cool, and clean. Without regular oil changes, the engine would seize up and become a useless, expensive lump. Like oil changes, the other services performed at regular intervals are necessary to keep each component in good working order. Not only will these service intervals keep your car in excellent shape, they allow our experienced technicians a chance to check on components that need regular inspection just to guarantee their safety, like brakes.

Is there a recall on my Mitsubishi?

Having recalls taken care of on your Mitsubishi is essential to the overall performance, safety, and longevity of your vehicle. Although recalls are mailed to owners, sometimes they can get lost along the way or misplaced and forgotten about. If you're curious as to whether or not there are any outstanding recalls on your Mitsubishi, utilize our Recall Inquiry tool here.

How can I get the most out of my vehicle?

First and foremost, stay up-to-date with your vehicles recommended maintenance schedule so that you don't miss any of those crucial routine services or the chance to diagnose a potential issue before it becomes a true headache.

Beyond that, your vehicle is an incredibly complex machine with a lot of moving parts that produce a lot of heat and friction as you drive, and following the rules of the road - as well as common sense! - will help you keep your vehicle running for many, many years. For example: follow the speed limits for optimal fuel efficiency, don't accelerate too quickly, don't brake too hard, allow your engine to warm up on colder days before you drive it, don't peel out or drift because it will wear out your tires very quickly, and so on. While pushing your vehicle to its limits might be a lot of fun, it's not safe and definitely not good for your vehicle's health.

What service is recommended for the winter months?

Any and all services are important at any time of the year, but the winter months bring some special challenges. Our first suggestion is to read your owner's manual and follow Mitsubishi's recommended service schedules. As for specifics, the following is recommended:

  • Assess any engine or drivability problems. Whether you're having hard starts, rough idling, stalling, lessened power, or anything else, these could be indicative of worsening problems down the road.
  • Replace any dirty filters such as air, fuel, oil, and PCV.
  • Add a bottle of fuel deicer to the tank once a month to prevent the fuel line from freezing.
  • Get an oil change if you're close to the required change time.
  • Flush and refill your cooling system, or at least have it checked.
  • Make sure your heater and defroster are in good working condition. A freezing-cold drive to work on a frosty morning is easily in the top five of our least favorite things to do before 9am.
  • Have your battery checked to ensure a smooth and reliable engine start.
  • Inspect all of your lights and bulbs to avoid dangerous trips home after work in the dark hours.
  • Check your tires for tread wear and air pressure, and potentially get winter tires in anticipation of snow and ice.
  • Have your brakes checked to ensure reliable stops on all road conditions.
  • Check your transmission and get a fluid change.

This isn't a comprehensive check list by any means so, if you're unsure of what to do, ask our technicians for their recommendations. Better safe than sorry!

Will routine maintenance improve the performance and/or life span of my car?

Yes, yes, a thousand times yes. Unlike our bodies, cars can't repair themselves when they're damaged, so getting routine maintenance is paramount to your vehicle's health. Drive safe and get your vehicle checked regularly for reliable driving all year round.
